First International Virtual Forum

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) of the faculty of Economics and Public Administration of the University of Economics, Prague, is working with the Respekt Institut and Forum 2000 to organize the first International Virtual Forum on Mexico- Security and Prosperity.  It will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 16.30 in Aula Likešová at the University in Prague, Zižkov.

The Mexican ambassador in Prague, H.E. José Luis Bernal will give the opening remarks of the Conference. Other distinguished participants are Ivan Pilip (former Finance Minister and Former Vice President of the European Investment Bank), Tomas Hes (Electronic Loan Exchange Network), Peter Zavadil (Foreign editor of Czech Television).  Also joining the conference via internet broadcast are Javier Trevino Cantú, the General Secretary of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon and Edgar Olivas, the former Mayor of Delicias, a Mexican state of Chihuahua.

According to a survey by Mercer Quality of Life, 12 Mexican cities ranked among the 50 most dangerous cities in the world. Alarming statistics show an increasing level of violence and deteriorating security situation in some regions of Mexico. Given that the Mexican economy is the second most important economy in Latin America, this is very disturbing.  The forum participants will attempt to answer the following questions: What are the socioeconomic impacts of this situation? and How will this affect the the long-term decisions of potential investors?
